I’m watching
Harlots, Housewives and Heroines on BBC iPlayer and I’m finding it fascinating.
Especially the parts about how women used to dress. During the 1660s women began wearing dresses that, in those days, were essentially just underwear and wearing a lot more makeup than before, leading to comments such as ‘It’s now hard to tell which ones are prostitutes.’
Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
It’s both oddly refreshing whilst simultaneously down-heartening to know it’s all happened before. The next time I hear some lady-slamming, slut-shaming I’ll have to get my history on.
